Software Assessments
In a distressed company - and in fact, in many companies
whether they are distressed or not - it's not uncommon to hear
complaints about the company's business software applications.
(The common business software application - typically at the core of a
company's suite of software applications - is the Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) system.)
The employees who complain can range from executives to office staff to
distribution center personnel. Complaints are usually focused
around inefficient data entry, the difficulty in finding information,
and the queries and reports upon which people have to make decisions.
What we've found is that how data is set up can either enhance or reduce
the functionality of a business software application. Poorly setup
data can make reporting a difficult task, and can result in information
being left off of reports or reported inaccurately.
Even if the software application's reports are less-than-desirable in
format and substance, if the data is accurate, external reporting
capabilities can often be used to support such internal software
deficiencies, and to do so very successfully.
Before a distressed company thinks about throwing away and replacing
their ERP system, a very expensive and painful proposition, it would be
wise to allow us to perform an assessment to determine if the system can
be retained and salvaged and alternatively supported.
